In-House
Building Information Modeling (BIM)
Building Information Modeling (BIM) in its simplest form is
using software to design, schedule, construct, and evaluate
a building or civil project in a three-dimensional virtual world.
A
BIM model of a project is not just a 3D model of a building,
but it also includes detailed information for each component
of the project, from the type and color of metal used in a
stair railing to the photometric performance of each light
fixture.
The Hunt Electric Design-Build team
has extensive experience with multiple BIM software platforms,
including
Revit, Navisworks,
and AutoCAD MEP. This expertise distinguishes us from other
design build contractors because we offer in-house Building
Information Modeling (BIM) services.
Hunt Electric was engaged
to assist with intense electrical BIM modeling and 3D coordination
on the $300 Million Topaz
Data Center in South Jordan, Utah. (Pictures to come)
Hunt
Electric was engaged in electrical BIM modeling and extensive
coordination on the City Creek Center Block
75 and Block 76
in Salt Lake City, Utah. We provided BIM services to
coordinate the electrical distribution in the underground
parking
garages. These systems supply power to not only over
1 million square
feet of parking, but also to the above ground retail,
office, and residential buildings. (Pictures to come)
Take advantage of the BIM benefits
BIM
has many facets that help us to ensure our customers get
the most for their project dollars. Here are just
a few of
the many advantages of using BIM for project design
and construction:

Visualization
BIM software tools provide us with accurate 3D
interactive models of projects that can be virtually
explored
and evaluated. The
latest BIM software allows these preliminary models
to be easily revised and changed. This assists
owners, architects,
municipalities
and others to conceptualize multiple options for
their projects
early in the design stage.
Coordination of Trades
Utilizing BIM
to coordinating electrical conduits with structural steel
and available ceiling
space, mechanical
piping/ductwork,
and all other trades involved in a project
enables us to detect conflicts between these trades
automatically and
make the
design revisions early on in the preconstruction
process.
Accelerating the Project Schedule
The enhanced coordination aspect of BIM
significantly reduces installation time.
Energy
Efficiency
BIM modeling enables us to provide faster
and more accurate analysis of building
energy performance,
and helps to
evaluate the performance vs. cost of
different building
components.
Project Costing (Tab)
Detailed BIM models provide more accurate
summaries of materials and components
to help in budgeting
and pricing
of construction
costs.
Building Service and
Maintenance
At the end of a project,
we offer our customers an accurate 3D model
of the
building that
can provide a user friendly
and interactive database of information
for each building
component
such as light fixtures, electrical
panels, and pumps. This model can
be interfaced
with Building
Automation
Systems
(BAS) to
track the usage of and schedule
maintenance for building equipment such as pumps,
air conditioning units, and
light fixture lamps.
